We had an opportunity to sit down with one of our Founders, Giuliana Musilli, to discuss job search in small privately held companies. Among her many roles, Giuliana is a Human Resources professional
Below are some excerpts from our interview:
A: Many of our employees are specialists in construction and in computers. Because we are a small company we prefer some experience. If we are hiring a recent graduate, we need to assess our ability (including our time) to train them.
A: The ideal candidate needs to be a self-starter. Know when to ask questions and able to self-advocate.
A: We filled our last position through an advertisement in an online job board. Resumes are sent in and reviewed by 2 people in Human Resources and then the hiring manager. As a small company we do not use an ATS. We read your resume and cover letter.
A: The interview process includes: resume review, phone interview, one or two rounds of personal interviews. After an offer is made we do reference checks and background checks prior to confirmation.
We appreciate your time and insights. Thank you Giuliana!
And thanks to our summer intern, Josh DeSieno for the accompanying photograph!
