Interview with the Director of Human Resources Operations – Healthcare
We had an opportunity to sit down with Patrizia Musilli, Director of Human Resources Operations within a not-for-profit healthcare network. Below are some excerpts from our interview:
A: The challenge is to get your foot in the door. Applicants apply for jobs through our Applicant Tracking System (ATS). Thousands of resumes come in and our talent acquisition team sorts for relevant skills and key words. One option to join our organization is to come in as a temporary or contract employee.
A: We already consider a temporary or contract employee, part of our team. We get to know you and you get to know us. You meet people in the organization. If a permanent position comes up, you are already trained and understand how the hospital operates. For example, a recent employee joined our team as a temp, worked in administration in two offices and was then hired for a full-time position.
A: Another opportunity at a non-profit hospital like ours is to come in as a volunteer. A new college graduate joined our team after volunteering in the President’s office. It was a great chance for him to learn about the organization and to showcase his skills and interest.
A: If you just want to find a job, then look at your connections. Analyze connections directly to HR or the hiring manager involved in a specific role. But, if you want to be in a certain organization, like ours, volunteer, take a temp position… do anything to get a foot in the door.
We appreciate your time and insights. Thank you Patrizia!
